Mickelson off to a flyer

Phil Mickelson looked determined to end his drought of no major titles from 45 starts when he took an TaylorMade R9 460 Driver early lead in the US PGA at Oak Hill, Rochester, New York this afternoon.

Starting at the 10th tee, alongside the in-form Thomas Bjorn and Kenny Perry, the left-hander Discount Golf birdied the tenth, 11th and 13th holes.

Last time Mickelson was here was as part of the defeated US Ryder Cup team in 1995 when he PING Rapture V2 Driver scored a singles win over Swede Per Ulrick Johannson on the final day. Europe had already clinched the trophy.

Bjorn was one under after six holes but dropped one at the Mizuno JPX E600 Driver seventh where Perry picked up a shot after bogeys at 11, 13 and 15.
